The Spruce Grove City Council has officially approved the plans for a new multi-sport recreation centre during their latest meeting held on May 18, 2026. The $15 million facility, designed to cater to athletes of all ages, will be built on the former site of the Spruce Grove Golf Club, conveniently located off Grove Drive and next to Jubilee Park.
Council members expressed enthusiasm over the new centre, which will feature an indoor ice rink, a multi-purpose gymnasium, and a rock climbing wall, in addition to community gathering spaces. Mayor Patricia Duzak stated, 'This is a significant step toward promoting health and wellness in our community. We’re investing in our residents' quality of life, providing them with more opportunities for recreation and sport.'
Construction is scheduled to start in April 2027, with completion anticipated by the end of 2028. Local residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming consultations, where they can provide input on the design features and programming options that would best serve the community’s needs.
In addition to the recreation centre, the council also discussed enhancements to surrounding areas, including improved walking trails connecting the centre to Jubilee Park and new playgrounds for families. This project aligns with the city's ongoing commitment to build sustainable and accessible recreational facilities for Spruce Grove families.
The new recreation centre has already received strong support from local sports organizations, who see it as a vital addition to the city's infrastructure. As Spruce Grove continues to grow, this facility is expected to not only enhance local sports programs but also attract tournaments and events that will benefit the community economically.
