In a unanimous decision, the Spruce Grove City Council approved plans for a new community recreation centre at the corner of King Street and McLeod Avenue during their latest meeting on May 29, 2026. This state-of-the-art facility aims to provide residents with a variety of recreational and wellness activities, promoting a healthy lifestyle in the community.
The proposed centre will feature two full-sized ice rinks, a multi-purpose gymnasium, and an indoor walking track. Additionally, it will house meeting rooms and space for various community events. Mayor Jeff Acker emphasized the importance of this facility in his speech, stating, "This centre will not only provide recreational opportunities but also serve as a hub for community engagement and togetherness."
Construction of the new centre is expected to begin in late summer 2026, with an anticipated completion date of spring 2028. The project is budgeted at $12 million, which will be funded through a combination of municipal resources, provincial grants, and community fundraising efforts. City officials are confident that the new recreation centre will become a valuable asset for residents of all ages.
In addition to the new centre, the city is also working on enhancements to nearby Jubilee Park, which will include improved walking trails and additional green spaces. This initiative aims to provide residents with even more outdoor recreational options and improve the overall quality of life in Spruce Grove.
As the project moves forward, the City Council invites residents to share their thoughts and ideas for programming and activities they would like to see offered at the new centre, encouraging community involvement in shaping the future of recreational services in Spruce Grove.
